Remember When
The official Geek Out show from FilmTangent.com. Remember When is dedicated to all the TV shows, cartoons, and movies from years past that have made us the geeks we are.

What a fitting moment for the Remember When podcast! We're celebrating the end of Breaking Bad by offering our first full-length show that we recorded face to face...  just Parris, Jay, and a microphone.   It's like you're a fly on the wall of our regular conversations!

The entirety of episode 60 is devoted to the end of Breaking Bad.  The final season was filled with ups and downs (mostly ups) and we're here to catalog them in full.  We talk about the pinnacle moments in the final hours of Heisenberg and why Ozymandias is going to be looked back on as one of the greatest episodes ever created for TV. We also talk about why the last two episodes feel a little "off" compared to the rest of the season, and how the series finale wraps up so many of the dangling plot threads.

Because there's just so much when it comes to the Breaking Bad finale, we spend our entire episode talking about the show.  If you haven't caught up, go do it right now!  Otherwise, we're going to spoil all the goodness for you.

As always, thank you to our fans for your continued support of our show. Remember When exists because of all the wonderful feedback we get. Our fans’ passion drives us! "Back so soon?", you ask?  Indeed!  Remember When is forgoing its usual three month waiting period between episodes with brand new content.  As one of our Twitter friends put it:  In Parris and Jay time, it's only been 1 week since the last show!

And in the world of entertainment, a lot has changed in the last seven weeks!  Netflix has gone from being the place where you watch reruns of Star Trek Voyager to a major powerhouse with Emmy nominations and some of the best shows on TV.

We spend the early part of the episode loving on Orange is the New Black.  This new show from the creator of Weeds is arguably one of the best shows you can watch right now, and is almost certain to be a frontrunner in the 2014 Emmy season.  We talk about how we each independently watched the series, then almost immediately watched it a second time, because it's just SO good!

Once that was done, Jay sat down with the first season of House of Cards to see what the Emmy voters got all worked up about this year, and Parris gets a well deserved "I told you so"

AND OMG BREAKING BAD IS BACK!  Walter White and Jesse Pinkman grace our TV screens once again, and we can't wait to talk about the powerhouse of a season opener. Remember to tread lightly here... tons of spoilers.

We end the show with a look back at the disappointing movies that capped out our summer season, and a look forward at what's in store for 2014 and 2015.

As always, thank you to our fans for your continued support of our show. We continue to do the show because of all the wonderful feedback we get. And now the story of omnipotent aliens who lost everything, and the two podcast hosts who had no choice but to watch their respective movies and see if they could keep it together.

We start off the show with a look back at Star Trek Into Darkness.  While our anticipation for the movie ran high, the final product proved to have a few holes.  Our spoiler-filled chat on the Final Frontier talks about the gross underutilization of Benedict Cumberbatch, the way they've mangled the story of some of the characters, where the story hit its all time high, and just a few of the ways the movie pays tribute to the original timeline.

Then we jump in, feet first, to our Man of Steel discussion.  Remember back in Episode 8 when we talked about what it would take for Superman to be relevant and interesting to current movie audiences?  It seems like Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan might have been listening in to our show that week, because Man of Steel feels like a line-by-line interpretation of so many of our ideas.  We gush about the updated approach to the movie, lament the property losses, and talk about how much we love Man of Steel almost in spite of itself.

Jay's been binge watching an old TV show, and we look back at the Bluth empire and its mighty fall.

Then it's a quick sideways tangent into the current landscape of TV, with brief chats on Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, Breaking Bad, and the finale of The Office.

There's lots of stuff in this episode, all crammed into a 75 minute window!

As always, thank you to our fans for your continued support of our show. We continue to do the show because of all the wonderful feedback we get. Look!  Up in the Sky!  It's a bird... it's a plane... IT BIRD PLANE!   Meanwhile, back on the ground, a brand new episode of Remember When is available for your auditory enjoyment.

Iron Man 3 hit theaters last week, and both of us have strong opinions on the first volley in Marvel's Phase 2 initiative.  We converse about what it's like coming off of The Avengers and how Iron Man 3 fails in that regard, what the movie does to be better than its atrocious successor in the Iron Man series, and how Robert Downey Jr. might be getting too old for this s**t.

Then we slide our way into talk about the most recent trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel.  The former is just hours from release and we can't wait to sink our fanboy teeth into this piece of cinematic goodness!  The latter is looking more and more promising.  And somehow, as we're talking, we manage to find ourselves talking about an alternate universe where the Beatles reunite and Superman III is never made.

No, that's not a joke.

Then it's on to the TV in our lives! Mad Men is letting us down, and Parks & Recreation is on FIRE this season.  Parris encourages Jay to watch Archer, Parris talks about his change in viewing habits, and Jay encourages everyone to listen to The Americans... again.

As always, thank you to our fans for your continued support of our show. We continue to do the show because of all the wonderful feedback we get. 47:16 to End - Archer (no spoilers), Mad Men (spoilers up to the most recent episode), Parks & Recreation (super mild conversation), talk about our next episode.

Pick yourselves up on the floor!  Not only is Remember When back with a new episode, we're on schedule!

Heads up, we're coming in HOT!  Parris has just finished the first season of Sherlock after a year of pressure from Jay.  And boy, do we have a lot to talk about! Parris recounts his experiences watching the first season and what he thinks about the show's brilliance.  Jay chats about an alternate universe where Benedict Cumberbatch nearly became the Eleventh Doctor.   And then, of course, we tangent off to talk about the news of David Tennant's return to the Who-niverse for the 50th Anniversary Special.... and we somehow, unexplainably, end up talking about Beverly Hills 90210 (the original) and Saved by the Bell.  Go figure!

Jay lets it slip that he's not a fan of Dinobots, which leads to a nostalgic trip down memory lane as we revisit our love of the original Transformers cartoon, the G.I. Joe movie, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and Voltron.  Parris lets Jay know about the original edit of G.I. Joe where a beloved character nearly died, and Jay talks about his emotional stress from the original Transformers movie.

We briefly chat about the starting episode for the latest season of Mad Men, and then tangent on how both of us are coming up to an impasse with The Walking Dead... at different points in the show.   And naturally, this leads to catching up on where we're at with other shows, like Parks & Recreation, Modern Family, and Community.  And then Jay talks about the first 15 minutes of Defiance, and how painful it looks.

Whether you like new stuff or old memories, this episode has something for you!

Yes, it's been a while.  But if it helps, WE MISSED YOU TOO!  And that's why we're back with Episode 55 of Remember When.  After a slight, minor, tiny delay due to Real Life, we've dusted off our microphones and come back for a fun and spirited conversation!

We kick off the show with a chat about Super 8.  This J.J. Abrams helmed adventure seeks to capture the spirit of Steven Spielberg and The Goonies by taking us back to the era of the late 70's ... but peters out near the end.  We talk about the successes and failures of the movie, and sidetrack into whether or not J.J. Abrams is really as great as Hollywood seems to think he is.

Then we sidestep our way into The Goonies, a timeless piece of 80's pop culture.  A seminal work from our youth, this film ages like fine wine or good cheese.  In fact, it's better to say it ages like Karen Allen (listen to the show... you'll get this joke later)

And since we're on a J.J. Abrams themed show, we talk about the news of his helming Episode VII, and what we think this means for the future of the Star Wars franchise.  Can our childhood memories be resurrected from the cruel, tortured world of the prequels?  Will we be able to feel proud for this sci-fi epic once again?  And how much lens flare can you fit into a single space epic?

We look ahead at the summer movie season.. there's a LOT of stuff ahead (like Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Man of Steel) and a lot of stuff that has us worried (like Man of Steel and Kick-Ass 2).

And TV is in a WILD place right now! From the success of House of Cards to the general failure of pretty much every one of the major TV networks, it's like we're back in the wild wild west of content programming.

As always, thank you to our fans for your patience and understanding as the duties of both of our Real Lives come up!  We've missed you and thank you so much for your words of support these past few months.  If you'd like to reach us, give us a ring at 714-758-5027 (you can call or text)! 0:00 to 4:22 - Intro

4:22 to 15:37 - Super 8 discussion (we basically spoil the CRAP out of the movie) and some tangenting about J.J. Abrams

15:37 to 31:31 - The Goonies discussion, with backtrack to Super 8 (More spoilers... we wreck the ending of both)

31:31 to 48:04 - J.J. Abrams taking over Star Wars... how do we feel? (plus talk of the casting rumors, side movies, and more)

48:04 to 52:15 - Sidetrack to Bryan Singer and the new X-Men casting news, Kick-Ass 2, Doctor Who, Sherlock (just a feather dusting of spoilers, nothing important)

52:15 to 56:02 - Summer movies and what we're looking forward to (includes chatter on Man of Steel's trailer)

56:02 to 1:02:28 - The Hobbit (mild spoilers)
