Farewell to LOST

After six years of living together, LOST moved into the afterlife this past weekend.  And with the show's closure, we're proud to give you our Farewell to LOST.

We take a look back at the show's final 2 and a half hours, looking at the finale episode with a fresh viewpoint, clear heart, and an open mind.   Can a show like LOST be wrapped up in a 2 hour story?  Will we find the closure we wanted or needed?  And most importantly, was it worth it?  We talk about what we loved with the finale and what we didn't enjoy.

Then we go back in time, looking at the course of the show's history.  We talk about why LOST was important when it started, how significant it was in TV history, and what it meant for the landscape of television programming over the next few years.  We also talk about some of our favorite scenes, our most missed characters, and why Nikki and Paulo are still better off dead, even from a Sideways perspective.

Lastly, we give you a look at the upcoming Remember When schedule.  Even if you're not a LOST fan and you hate when we talk about it, you don't want to miss our next two show topics.  At least one of them will be epic.

Revenge of the Slater

As the 80's saying goes, Fair is Fair. In light of this, we're happy to bring you another episode of Remember When.

This week, our featured discussion is Heathers.  Chosen by our Facebook fans in a poll this week, Heather is the latest in Great Movies That Jay Has Never Seen, but it's also brand new to Parris as well!  We sit down and talk about the general reception of the movie, what we think of Christian Slater in one of his earliest performances, and talk about the mix of dark comedy and over the top violence.  Jay waxes philosophically about the parallels between the movie and The Catcher in the Rye, Parris feels let down by some elements of the movie, and the ghost of Christian Slater's 80's hairdo comes back from the dead to strike at the podcast.  We also tangent into 80's High School Movies in general, and how Heathers compares and contrasts against some of the greats, like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club.

Then we jump into the latest news in TV cancellations, talking about FlashForward and Heroes.  Both programs were axed by their respective networks this week, and we talk about why we're OK with these decisions, what we think about the peril of investing in a mediocre show for too long, and how some of these decisions may affect our long term viewing habits.

We also have a few things to say about LOST, with a couple of minor spoilers... but you'll have to wait until the end of the show for the surprise.

That TV Show on ABC

After a two month hiatus to focus on bringing a new life into the world, Remember When is proud to be back on your iPods, Zunes, and computers!

We kick off the show by continuing our Scorsese edition of Great Movies Jay Has Never Seen.  Released in 1995 and featuring an all-star cast, Parris previously stated that he expected Jay to like Casino, but not as much as he loved Goodfellas.  Will the prognostications of Parris prove poignant, or will Jay dislike this film?  We sit and talk about the joys of Scorsese's direction, the writing pace, and the stellar performance of Sharon Stone.

Then we kick into higher gear as we talk about the lead-in to the 2010 Summer movie season, Iron Man 2.  Robert Downey Jr. is back, but is his red suit still firing on all thrusters?  Did the sequel rise above the quality of the original for Jay and Parris, or was this just a so-so offering that could have been better?   And most importantly, how awesome is Scarlett Johansson in tight clothes?   We give you a spoiler-heavy look at Iron Man 2, covering what we liked, what we didn't like, and more.

Finally, we jump into our continuing discussion on LOST.  As ABC's hit show draws closer to its finish line, we talk about our increased disappointment over events in the show, the diminished impact of the show's writing, and what we think could have been improved.  We also talk about our theories for the show's ending, what we would have liked to see happen, and theorize on what contributed to the collapse of this show's universe.
